Singer Beyoncé dominates the nominations for the next Grammy awards gala with her album Cowboy Carterthus becoming the most nominated artist in the history of the gala.
With her 11 nominations announced Friday, the American diva has obtained a total of 99 mentions in her career.
Cowboy Carter is up for album and country album of the year, and “Texas Hold ‘Em” is nominated for recording, song and country song of the year. She has also received nominations across a wide range of genres, including pop, country, Americana, and melodic rap performance.
This is the first time she has received nominations in the country and Americana categories.
If Beyoncé wins the Grammy for Album of the Year, she will become the first black woman to achieve this feat in the 21st century.e century. Lauryn Hill last won the Grammy in 1999 for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hilljoining Natalie Cole and Whitney Houston as the only black women to win the Grammy’s most prestigious award.
Post Malone also received his first nominations in country categories this year, after releasing his debut country album F-1 Trillion in August. He is in the running for this record as well as for the song “I Had Some Help,” the result of his collaboration with Morgan Wallen, which is nominated for country song and country duo/group performance. These are Wallen’s first Grammy nominations.
Malone is just behind Beyoncé, with seven nominations, tied with Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar and Charli XCX, who earned her first nominations as a solo artist.
Lamar’s song released during his feud with Drake, “Not Like Us”, is in the categories of recording and song of the year, rap song, music video, as well as best rap performance. He has two simultaneous mentions in the latter category, a first in his career: Future&Metro Boomin’s track with Lamar, “Like That”, is in the running for best rap performance and best rap song.
This is the third time he has received two simultaneous nominations for Best Rap Song.
Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan – who obtained their first nominations – obtained six mentions, the same as Taylor Swift.
A wide variety
Last year, female artists dominated the major categories. This year, we are seeing an alternation between female and male artists. In the Album of the Year category, alongside Cowboy Carterwe find New Blue Sun by André 3000 and multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier for Djesse Vol. 4. Rising pop stars Carpenter and Roan round out the rankings, with respectively Short n’Sweet et The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princessalongside the albums The Tortured Poets Department de Taylor Swift, Hit Me Hard and Soft by Billie Eilish and BRAT de Charli XCX.
Eilish is the only artist whose first three albums were nominated for album of the year.
Last year, Swift won album of the year for Midnightsbreaking the record for the most victories in this category with four. This year, she becomes the first woman to receive seven nominations in this category.
In the Best New Artist category, Carpenter and Roan will compete alongside Benson Boone, Doechii, Khruangbin, RAYE, Shaboozey and Teddy Swims.
In the song of the year category, Beyoncé will be joined by Eilish with “Birds of a Feather,” Swift and Post Malone with “Fortnight,” “Good Luck, Babe!” ” by Roan, “Please Please Please” by Carpenter, “Not Like Us” by Lamar, “Die With A Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, and “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey.
Shaboozey is also nominated for the first time. Her song “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is the most popular song of the year, having spent more weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 than any other song. Its popularity is such that a remix of the song is also in the running in the category dedicated to remixed recordings.
The 2025 Grammy Awards Gala will air February 2 live on CBS and Paramount+ from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
