Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé… The biggest American stars may have publicly supported Kamala Harris, encouraging their fans to vote for her, but that does not seem to have been enough. According to the first results of the American presidential election, Donald Trump won, becoming the 47th president of the United States.
Stars who don't hide their disappointment
On X, Christina Applegate also did not hide her sadness and anger about the situation. “If you voted against women's rights, against the rights of people with disabilities, stop following me on social media,” she said. “I don’t want you, it makes me sick.” Likewise, Donald Trump's niece, Mary Trump, did not hide her disappointment. “I’m sorry, I thought we would be better,” said the woman who never hid her disgust towards her uncle’s politics.
Best-selling author Stephen King was more philosophical, saying: “There's a sign you see in many stores that sell fragile things: 'Pretty to look at, delicious to hold, but if it's broken, you'll have to pay for it. “The same can be said of democracy,” he said on X.
The cold anger of many stars
On social networks, and particularly on X, many celebrities have already expressed their disappointment, particularly given the various accusations made against the politician over the years, concerning racism like gender-based and sexual violence.
This is also what the very committed actress Lili Reinhart pointed out: “I can’t even imagine what the women who denounced the sexual assaults they suffered at the hands of Trump feel. They see millions of people voting for their attacker. My heart breaks for these women. I believe you and I am truly sorry,” she said on X.
On Instagram and on TikTok, many stars have expressed their frustration. “I hate you so much,” rapper Cardi B said in her Instagram story, with tears in her eyes.
The first concerns
Sophia Bush, the star of the Scott Brothers who denounced several laws implemented under the presidency of Donald Trump, preferred to make a promise to her subscribers: “I pray that everything will be fine tomorrow morning. No matter what happens, I will always fight alongside you for our civil rights, our autonomy, and an America that works for the working class and not just the billionaire class. I love you. I love us,” she wrote with emotion.
Actor Wendell Pierce posted a message full of concern, saying: “The Supreme Court will be changed for an entire generation. I will never see a moderate Court again in my life. (…) The damage that what he is about to inflict on our institutions over the next two years will be irreparable.”
