Singer-songwriter, musician and actor, Robert Charlebois is a multi-talented artist who has collaborated with big stars like Miou-Miou and Terence Hill. At 80, he continues to perform on stage and will begin a new tour through France and Belgium at the end of November. For the occasion, he was the guest of the show Teleprobroadcast this Monday, November 4. A great friend of Coluche, the singer revealed some secrets about the comedian, evoking the difficult trials he was going through when they met.
“I have a Coluche in my head and in my heart that no one else has ever had”: Robert Charlebois confides in his friendship with Coluche
In 1980, Robert Charlebois built his own house in Guadeloupe. The artist can count on the help of his handyman friend, Coluche, whom he met shortly before. At the microphone of Teleprothe actor remembered his years alongside the comedian: “Coluche was my neighbor for three or four years in Guadeloupe, we found each other by synchronicity of destiny. He knew who I was, I knew who he was. We found ourselves a kilometer as the crow flies from each other.”he confides. The two artists quickly became friends, living isolated from the world: “I have a Coluche in my head and in my heart that no one else has ever had. He wasn’t funny. When I say that I laughed more with Alain Juppé than with Coluche, I’m serious“, he explains. Coluche was going through a bad time when Robert Charlebois met him: “Coluche had just separated from his wife, he didn’t have his children, he smoked big bangers, everyone knows that…“, he confides, before asserting: “He was the sad clown, I had more of the Coluche de Tchao pantin than the comic Coluche“.

Despite the difficult ordeals that Coluche was going through, Robert Charlebois affirms that his friend was always a great help to him. Having a certain appetite for work, the comedian was very talented in this field: “Coluche was a huge handyman: he repaired his boat, he made his furniture…“, confides Robert Charlebois. The singer affirms that he was present at his side during the construction of his house: “He helped me a lot when I built my house, we had a lot of fun. We did all kinds of things, boating, fishing and then the accident happened in 1986. I can’t tell you everything about Coluche but there were already problems there. I keep this in my heart for myself (…)“, he testifies. The singer had already had the opportunity to ride a motorbike with Coluche: “I often rode a motorbike behind him, with a firecracker in my nose (…) I wasn’t afraid, he was crazy about motorbikes, he turned with his knees touching, I stood behind him, I had confidence“. On June 19, 1986, Coluche lost his life, hit by a heavy goods vehicle. He was riding a motorcycle between Cannes and Opio.
