Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November 2024, sixteen exhibitors were gathered in the Bessie Coleman Room for the craft fair in Rue, organized by the festival committee. This is where we met Romain Smigowski.

Teacher for 45 years in Rue, today retirementRomain is a master in the art of ironwork. “Ironwork has always been my passion. I like working on this material which can be shaped as desired and with which everything is possible,” he explains.

A passion that he sharpens for over 30 years by making all kinds of objects, which he then likes to decorate with lampshades. “They are often salvage items and just by seeing them I already have the idea of what I’m going to do with them. Old beer pump et fork look great after being transformed into a lamp,” Romain marvels.

And it had been 9 years since this enthusiast had exhibited at the craft fair. “My attic was filling up visibly, so it was imperative to make room,” smiles Romain.

But his art does not stop there, at the salon Romain also exhibited his new creations: resin objects. All are “made using silicone molds that I make myself or that I buy,” underlines the artist.
