In November 2000, the favorite Yves Parlier (Samuel Le Bihan) was preparing to participate in the Vendée Globe for the third time. He wants to win this sailing race around the world solo, non-stop and without assistance. Nothing seems to be able to stop the “sea alien” in this endeavor, not even the bad weather report which delays the departure.
With his boat, which he nicknamed Kiki, the reckless man took the lead in the race, and remained leader for almost a month. But then he makes a choice that will change the course of things. Yves Parlier wants to go always faster, always further. Facing the sea, other sailors and himself, he wants to break records and to do so makes a mistake: in the Indian Ocean, he takes a risky route and his boat dismasts.
Guided by the instinct for survival
There he is alone in the middle of the infinite expanse of water, with his only companion as his injured boat, to which he speaks and gives tender kisses. The navigator refuses any assistance, cannot resign himself to giving up. He perseveres, guided this time not by the spirit of competition but by the survival instinct of a man devoted to nature.
Samuel le Bihan offers a remarkable acting performance. Throughout the adventure, his body changes: he loses weight, he ages, and the viewer feels the slightest effort that the exhausted and hungry adventurer makes to repair his mast. He is also ecstatic at the ingenuity of this man left to his own devices.
Director Pierre Isoard shows, through this captivating story, the allegory of a world heading towards its doom, hit hard by the climate change that men have caused. Society continues to race toward ever more growth and technologies that threaten its own existence. This TV film calls for humanity… and humility.

Closer to those who create
Humanity always claimed the idea that culture is not a commoditythat it is a condition of political life and human emancipation.
Faced with liberal cultural policies, which weaken the public service of culture, the newspaper reports on the resistance of creators and all cultural personnel, but also on the solidarity of the public.
Unusual, daring and singular positions are the hallmark of the newspaper’s culture pages. Our journalists explore behind the scenes of the world of culture and the genesis of the works who make and shake up the news.
Help us defend an ambitious idea of culture!
