Son of immigrants who became a symbol of French culture around the world, Charles Aznavour is a monument. How then can we not want to present it and tell it in its entirety? This is what Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir did by choosing, for their film, the format of biopic.
Extraordinary pugnacity
If they are criticized for wanting to put too many things into it without having added a singular vision, the ttestimony of admiration and tribute that this film represents did not allow anything other than respect for the biography the most classic.
Without being in hagiography, Mr Aznavour rather addresses all the self-sacrifice and devotion of a man who never let go of his dreams for the future, even if it meant only thinking about himself. Aznavour will have demonstratedextraordinary pugnacityfrom his childhood to the blossoming of his talent and then to the explosion of his success.
And this is where the film leads to the message, perhaps simple but essential, that life only has meaning that we give it, and thatyou have to believe in it more than anything.
The master’s texts
On the casting side, it’s impossible not to praise the performance of Tahar Rahimthat the hard work to blend into the skin of the artist will have led to sing, himselfTHE master’s texts. A universal and timeless lyricist, Aznavour touched the intimate without anyone ever really knowing or understanding him: a feat.
The punctuation of his songs throughout the film highlights and magnifies Aznavour’s exceptional career. What to want listen to his discography again right out of the box!
