From June 8 to 22, 2024, the Fougères Musicales classical music festival takes up the challenge of achieving a consistently high-quality level of programming: eleven events have been announced, including five concerts which will take place at the Saint-Sulpice church.

Harp, horn, double bass and voice

The organizers wish “ offer an opportunity to discover something else », says Gabriel Richard, artistic director of the festival. And this from the opening concert, Saturday June 8, 2024, at 8:30 p.m., at the Saint-Sulpice church in Fougères which will highlight, this year again, wind instruments, with Jean-Christophe Vervoitte, on horn, and Raphaël Sévère, on clarinet, in a tribute to Brahms. The team wants to offer unexpected formulas, to surprise regulars and attract new audiences.

Saturday June 15, 2024, spectators will be able to enjoy a concert between music and words, like an intimate conversation, proposed by the writer Pascal Quignard and the pianist Aline Piboule.

The voice will be highlighted during the closing concert with Adriana Kučerová, one of the best-known sopranos in Slovakia. She will be accompanied by newcomers, like Yann Dubost, on double bass, and Fabrice Pierre, on harp.

Essential partnerships

The Fougères Musicales festival has two years of preparation in advance to ensure the arrival of big names in classical music. This anticipation requires support from the city of Fougères and Fougères agglomeration. “ Without partnership agreements, the festival could not exist », Specifies Marcel Saliot, president of the Fougères Musicales association.

Such an event requires the provision of spaces and multiple technical facilities for musicians, provided by the Fougères agglomeration conservatory. “ This is a very important collaboration for the life of this festival. », Specify the organizers, with a view of the new auditorium under construction. “ There is an educational desire behind all this », assures Augusto Machado, director of the conservatory, with the implementation of a “spectator’s journey” module in the students’ curriculum from the next school year.

Finally, the educational concert proposed by Alain Brunier, a true European journey around music, will be accessible to the public on Thursday June 20 at the Fougères media library.

From June 8 to 22, 2024. Programming and reservation information on www.festivalfougeresmusicales.com, free for under 16s. Free entry to educational concerts, in hospitals, the media library and the public garden.
