The 27e edition of Jazz festival and surroundings has Malguénac pays tribute to the 50 years since the death of pianist Duke Ellington. Hence this year’s theme, Caravanan oriental standard recorded in 1937 by the Duke Ellington Orchestra.

It is therefore with a desire to listen to the sound of the ancestors that the organizers of the event, which will take place August 15 to 18, 2024, have established a new program provided in sizes from jazz.

The biggest headliner of 2024 is the big Kenny Garrett. It is also at the Duke Ellington Orchestra that one of the greatest saxophonists over the last 30 years has developed his talent. A talent that he exercised with musicians such as Miles Davis, Art Blakey, Donald Byrd and Freddie Hubbard.

The artist, who comes with his American sextet with whom he has been playing for several years, will spend Friday August 16, from 10:15 p.m., under the big top.


Friday August 15

The festival will start on August 15 with the dense and powerful sound of the central-Breton group Moger Orchestra (7 p.m., marquee). A prelude before the arrival of Romain Baret quintet and his show which is the soundtrack to “The Rise and Fall of Our Civilization” (8:30 p.m., Résonance room).


Then go from laughter to tears with Kasper and his pianomobil (9:45 p.m., outdoor site), before the return ofEmile Parisien in Malguénac. With his quartet, he will play jazz, free jazz, electro, lyricism and dreaminess (Résonance room, 10:15 p.m.).

The evening will continue with the screaming choupi trance ofSensitive Quilt : two guys flapping their arms, two blowing (11:45 p.m., big top). It will end, like every evening of the festival, with a set by DJ Pouche from 1:30 a.m. in the marquee.


Friday August 16

Aside from Kenny Garrett, several groups will perform on Friday August 16. The Polyphonies of the world of the female trio Maaar hostilities will begin in the big top at 7 p.m. The quintet ofHélène Labarrière. The double bassist will present each of the pieces of her “Puzzle” (8:15 p.m., Résonance room).


After the return of Kasper and his pianomobil, still at 9:45 p.m. outdoors, it will be Kenny Garrett and his sextet. Then, place Caillou quartet (11:30 p.m., marquee) which ranges from the hardest rock to the fiercest jazz.

Saturday August 17

Saturday August 17, another quartet from Central Brittany will start the evening: Friiich (7 p.m., marquee). It crosses the borders between the harbors of Kreiz Breizh and American Juke Joints.

Next, the multi-toned vocalist Leila Martial will be present again at the Jazz and surroundings festival. She will offer a formidable sound rebellion, very intimate, jubilant, to leave you speechless (8:15 p.m., Résonance room).


She will give way, at 9:45 p.m., in the Résonance room, to the famous guitarist Dick Annegarn who sings in French. His humorous “agricultural songs” will retrace his 50 years of naturalist poetry.


Then, the quartet Inuiawarded at Jazz Migration 2023, will present his mix of experimental pop and rock prominence.

Finally, before the Dj Pouche set, Guembri Superstar will close the festival program. This trio is dedicated to a dense, urban and modern trance, drawn from the lands of Africa or the West Indies.
