Surprise(s) at the finish of the flagship event of the British Champions Day, the Qipco Champion Stakes (Gr.I), with the victory of the big outsider Measure (6 years old), at 38/1, who dominated the valiant tricolor Calandagansecond under the saddle of Stéphane Pasquier, for the training of Francis-Henri Graffard, while the very supported Economicscould not do better than sixth. Trained by Owen Burrows, and ridden by Jim Crowley, Measurewho is known on our soil for having won the 2023 Prix d’Ispahan, remained on a mixed performance and redeemed himself brilliantly by finishing the strongest in the middle of the track. Calandaganwho nevertheless had the illusion of success, continuing his effort well, wedged along the rail, bowed with honors. He was the favorite of British punters at 6/4. Another outsider, Royal Rhymefinished third at 24/1 ahead of the other Frenchman, Iresine (Marie Vélon / Jean-Pierre Gauvin). The Foy Prize winner performed very well in finishing fourth, and would certainly have finished third with a few decameters more.
