The actress, acting partner of Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly in the cinema, died of natural causes this week.

Actress and dancer Mitzi Gaynor, star of musicals with Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly in the 1950s, died Thursday morning of natural causes, her agents announced in a statement. She was 93 years old.

“As we celebrate her career, we thank her friends, fans and the audiences she entertained throughout her life,” her agents said. “Your love and support meant so much to her.”

Mitzi Gaynor was one of the last survivors of the age of Hollywood musicals. She began her career very early, in the 1940s. And after the cinema, she became famous on television and on stage.

Nominated for the Golden Globes

Mitzi Gaynor was best known for her role in the musical South Pacific (1958). She received a Golden Globe nomination for her participation in the adaptation of this very popular Broadway musical.

His interpretations of the songs from the film – I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair et I’m in Love with a Wonderful Guy – were very popular in the United States. They had topped the Billboard chart for 31 weeks at the time.

Mitzi Gaynor also appeared in The joyful parade (1954) with Marilyn Monroe. And had given the answer to Gene Kelly in Les Girls (1957), to Frank Sinatra in The broken puppet (1957) or to Kirk Douglas in Three girls to marry (1963).

The actress ended her career in the cinema in the early 1960s. She then found success once again on stage, in Las Vegas, and on television where she hosted several variety shows.
