Authorities in Buenos Aires have opened an investigation into the death of Liam Payne.
The former One Direction star died on Wednesday at the age of 31 after falling from his hotel balcony in the Argentine capital.
Buenos Aires police said in a statement: “Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo. »
Local authorities are currently investigating the tragedy and have conducted an autopsy.
Alberto Crescenti, head of the state’s emergency medical system, confirmed that the singer fell in an interior courtyard of the CasaSur Palermo hotel.
Mr Crescenti told Argentine television channel Todo Noticias: “A few minutes later an emergency team arrived and confirmed the death of this man who we later learned was part of a group . He suffered fatal injuries following his fall. There was no way to do anything to revive him. »
