Last August, Hélène Darroze was a guest on the show “Ca va fait des histoire”, on the airwaves of RTL. The opportunity for her to share a anecdote surprising, relayed by the Women’s Journal : the day when Johnny Depp almost had lunch in his restaurant. Unfortunately for the chef, things did not go as planned…
Hélène Darroze’s advice for the end of year celebrations
“One Saturday afternoon, she saw Johnny Depp arrive at reception to reserve a table of four seats”she says, speaking of the receptionist from one of its restaurants. “Believing she was doing the right thing, and without talking to me, she said to Johnny Depp: ‘Listen, we’re sorry, but we can’t take you’.”
The hostess therefore refused a table to the famous actor. She then told this story to the chefwho was not very happy. “When it’s Johnny Depp and we’ve just moved in, we push the walls!”she explains. “I assure you that we would have found space. I was still pretty angry.”
The hostess then wanted to minimize her mistake and explained to her boss that the actor had still taken a reservation for another day. “She told me: ‘Don’t worry, he reserved a table for Tuesday evening’. We were closed on Sunday, Monday. ‘So, he will be there on Tuesday, so four place settings, don’t worry'”says Hélène Darroze, who admits to having told herself that it was “half lost”.

Unfortunately for her, Johnny Depp never came that day… “Only, on Tuesday evening, he never came”she continues. “Because, on Tuesday morning, Vanessa Paradis had given birth to their little boy.” This anecdote therefore dates from the time when Johnny Depp was in a relationship with Vanessa Paradis, and more precisely from 2002, when their son Jack was born. “So, I never saw Johnny Depp again, and that’s it”concluded the chef, smiling but still with a little regret.
