Oktoberfest brings several million revelers to Munich, Bavaria, every year. We are of course not there yet for the Les Ambassadeurs association, which has been organizing a major beer festival between Rennes and Saint-Malo since 2020. Like last year, it is at the Fort de Saint-Père that this Brétillienne Oktoberfest will take place from Thursday October 17 to Saturday October 19, 2024. No less than 1,000 people are expected there three evenings in a row.

An 800 m2 marquee

Under an 800 m marquee² decorated in a traditional Bavarian style, they will be served draft beer in a “real mass” (or Maß in German), that is to say a one-liter mug. The opportunity to discover “Starnberger, a Bavarian craft beer brand which is partnering with Krombacher for its European launch”, mention the organizers in the press kit for this Oktoberfest.

Not just beer to drink

There won’t just be beer to drink: wines and champagnes will also be offered, as well as non-alcoholic drinks (good to know for those who have to carpool back by car). There will also be food: mixed board and pretzel for the aperitif, traditional Bavarian dishes (choice of sauerkraut or half chicken with mashed potatoes) and chocolate cake for dessert.

Rock and a Bavarian ‘sport’

As in October 2023, musical entertainment will be provided by a Bavarian rock group, The Heimatdamisch. In a folk style, they cover international pop and rock hits (AC/DC, Guns n’ Roses, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Nena, Eurythmics, The White Stripes, etc.). From 11 p.m., a DJ will take over until the marquee closes.

Finally, don’t miss Masskrugstemmen, a typically Bavarian ‘sport’. It’s about holding your full mass of beer, at arm’s length, for as long as possible. It took five minutes last year at Fort Saint-Père to win the competition. Far, very far from the best in the world who last more than 20 minutes… All you have to do is train!
