This is the well-known story of a fawn named Bambi, which is the subject of debate today. A character popularized by Disney, this initiatory adventure is first and foremost a novel, written by Felix Salten, which depicts the journey strewn with pitfalls experienced by the young deer.

It is this story from 1923 that Michel Fessier chose to adapt it for cinema, this time, not in the form of cartoons, but indeed with real animals.

And it is precisely this point that makes the PAZ association jump. Explanations.

Exploited animals

For the association, the film Bambi “misleads the public on several counts”. For PAZ, production “has exploited wild animals captives.” Bambi therefore tells “a beautiful story with unhappy animals”.

Bambi’s story calls for empathy towards animals. It is the opposite of imprisoning animals for entertainment.

THE conditions of detention “do not meet their needs, whether in terms of space or physical expenses,” continues PAZ.

What the animal protection association also decries is the “discrepancy” between the values of Felix SaltenBambi’s father, and those conveyed in the film adaptation of Michel Fessier.

Felix Salten has written several animal novels including “Captive Beasts”. This book is fundamentally anti-captivity! Felix Salten makes the different captive animals in a zoo express themselves: they repeat their deep sadness, their discomfort and even their anger towards the humans who imprison them.

PAZ

“Knowing this, it is shocking and revolting that a film uses his work using animal captivity,” supports the association.

An action planned in Nantes

Before the release of the film scheduled for October 16, 2024, a preview is organized Wednesday, October 9, at 2 p.m., at Katorza, in the presence of the director. On this occasion, PAZ members planned an awareness-raising action.

They will meet in front of the Katorza, at 1:30 p.m., to distribute leaflets and alert spectators on animal exploitation “hidden behind certain films, in particular the film Bambi ».
