Marvel Studios plans to scale back their projects.
Marvel Studios Chairman Kevin Feige and Co-Chairman Louis D’Esposito admitted they’ve taken “a little hit” in recent years, but have “learned [leur] lesson” and thought they would be in a strong position if they limited the number of films and series they released in a short period of time.
Speaking to Empire magazine, Louis said: “If we had stayed at the top, it would have been the worst thing that could have happened to us. We took a little hit, and we’re coming back strong. Maybe when you do too much, you dilute yourself a little bit. We’re not going to do that anymore. We’ve learned our lesson, maybe two or three films a year and one or two series, rather than four films and four series.”
This year, “Deadpool + Wolverine” will be the only Marvel movie to be released, which Kevin welcomed.
He added: “It’s nice to be able to rally behind just one film this year. I’m much more comfortable as an underdog. I prefer to be able to surprise and exceed expectations. So it seems like “Last year, which was not ideal, prepared us well for this.”
Their comments were echoed by Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger, who said the company would “reduce production and focus more on quality,” especially when it comes to Marvel.
