While he was stopped by his jockey William Buick in the first round of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe this Sunday, the horse Haya Zark died. Trained in Mayenne, the horse suffered an internal hemorrhage during the race.
The images left us fearing the worst and unfortunately there was no miracle. The horse Haya Zark, who took the start of the legendary Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe this Sunday, has died, announces Paris-Turf. He was pulled from the peloton then stopped about halfway through the race by his jockey, the British William Buick.
Stopped mid-race by his jockey
The visual impression was not good, the equine having completely lost its rhythm all of a sudden, its stride becoming chaotic, as if the animal had lost all its bearings. Trained in Mayenne by Adrien Fouassier and owned by Odette Fau, Haya Zark was then at the forefront of the peloton. France Galop immediately announced the opening of an investigation to determine “the causes and consequences of the incident” but concluded “that Haya Zark had been the victim of a physical problem and that no fault could not be held against one of its competitors”.
The 103rd Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe was won by Bluestocking, a mare entered at the last minute for the race by the Juddmonte Farms stable, who beat the Frenchman Stéphane Pasquier and Aventure.
