Against the backdrop of the Guillaume Meurice affair at France Inter, the Radio France unions have filed a strike notice for freedom of expression for May 12.
MEDIA – By ricochet. The dismissal of France Inter comedian Guillaume Meurice provoked indignation among Radio France teams, whose unions called on Monday evening to strike on Sunday May 12. Journalists also denounce ” the threats “ which weigh on certain France Inter broadcasts.
While Radio France suffers “a campaign of denigration and slander orchestrated by political parties or personalities frankly hostile to public service”Radio France is conducting a “politics of social destruction” by deleting broadcasts, denounce the authors in the strike notice belowsigned by the CGT, CFDT, FO, SNJ, Sud, and Unsa.

The journalists mention in particular the case of France Inter, “ whose trademark has been insolence and freedom of tone since the end of the ORTF”. And add: “in an increasingly divided society, where hysteria replaces public debate, plurality and humor must keep a central place on our broadcasts”.
“Editorial shift” of France’s leading radio station
The day of the strike notice was not chosen at random, Sunday is the day on which Charline Vanhoenacker’s weekly show is broadcast, in which Guillaume Meurice usually participates. The comedian was suspended on May 2 pending a possible sanction which could go as far as dismissal, four days after having reiterated his controversial comments about Benjamin Netanyahu made at the end of October.
He compared the Israeli Prime Minister to a “kind of a Nazi but without a foreskin”which earned him accusations of anti-Semitism and a complaint, recently dismissed.
On May 3, in the wake of the Meurice affair, the societies of journalists (SDJ) and producers (SDPI) of France Inter denounced “an editorial shift” from the first radio in France. They claimed in particular to have learned of the upcoming replacement of the program on the environment Earth squared.
An audiovisual reform project led by the Minister of Culture Rachida Dati, the objective of which is the establishment of a single governance for public audiovisual (including France Télévisions and Radio France) will be examined on 23 and May 24 at the National Assembly. A reform decried by public radio unions.
