Photographer Eric Baudet invited himself to the homes of vinyl enthusiasts to tell about their intimate connection to music. On display until May 12 at the Pop Galerie in Sète.

Show me what you listen to, I will understand a little more who you are… Through the portraits of Vinyl Story (until May 12), part of which was directly printed on LP records, Norman photographer Éric Baudet was interested in the intimate relationship that music enthusiasts have with their collection of 33 rpm records. And it is a series almost exclusively from Sète that he hung on the walls of the Pop Galerie as part of the Itinérances Foto festival. A dozen portraits of music lovers surrounded by vinyls that tell their story, or a story.

“During a stay in Sète with friends, through meetings, the desire to reactivate the Vinyl Story project arrived. It was Didier Wampas that I photographed first, on his sofa. Then there was had Pascal Larderet and his incredible collection of 50,000 records, the Mexican-Sétoise DJ Sophie Legay, the esthete Jac Berrocal, Philippe and his twenty vinyls of the Stones’ album Sticky Fingers… They all told me incredible stories and agreed to pose at home, among the coversexplains Éric Baudet, who was a press photographer for 25 years. For the process to be complete, it was also necessary to show their interior. This says a lot about the place that vinyls hold in their daily lives. For them, music is not just entertainment!”

On the walls of the Pop Galerie, we discover the guitarist of Sonic Preacher, the couple of street artists Amonalis, the owner of the place Pascal Saumade, the graffiti artist Depose or the stylist Catherine Soussouy. And to accompany the wandering of his visitors, the artist has even planned a musical selection for the occasion, available on the Deezer platform under the name “Music is a drug: Vinyl Story”.

Vinyl Story, by Éric Baudet, until May 12 at the Pop Galerie, 16 quai du Pavois d’Or in Sète. Also worth discovering is the exhibition Drums! by photographer Pierre Bendine-Boucar. The Nîmes native was interested in drums, and their condition among other instruments after rock concerts.
