A new musée opens in Marmande this Saturday, October 5, 2024, and it should be talked about well beyond the borders of the Lot-et-Garonne department: Jean-Louis Ricaud opens the… Jean-Louis Ricaud Museumentirely devoted to his own work.

More than 200 sculptures, 80 paintings and drawings over 800m² of surface area, “and there is not everything, of course”.

The monumental art of Jean-Louis Ricaud

Because the artist, throughout his rich career, has sold numerous works, has also worked with nightclubs, and today only works for a few commissions. “15 years ago, I stopped working in galleries and exhibitions. But I continued to work” says the man who created the training center Créatéca in Bordeaux, and who continues to work there.

But Jean-Louis Ricaud is hyperactive, with thousands of meticulous works to his credit, a mind that we feel constantly bubbling, a view of the world that belongs to him. And one talent enormous, which gave birth to powerful works, which are sometimes disturbing. But how could art achieve unanimity?

In the lineage of the Renaissance

But let’s return to this new Marmandais museum which required two years of work for the artist. Because it was first necessary to do work in what was then the Laser game, unoccupied for years.

Here again, the work is admirable, with exceptional surfaces and volumes. Perfect settings for the Jean-Louis Ricaud style, which says “being part of theart underground. I have been making my way, peacefully, for 50 years. I am autonomous.”

So in this museum which presents a real retrospective of his abundant worknothing is for sale, “I do this for the people”.

He, who has also written books, finally takes out from the reserves pieces which have, for some, never been shown to the public, in particular life-size ceramics which can nevertheless be inspired by fantasy, religion, mythology, sexuality .

I am in the lineage of Renaissance artists. I’m talking about birth, death, God, fertility. In my art, I actually talk about life.

A monumental art, in its sculptures as in its paintings, to be looked at carefully to appreciate (or not) its full meaning.

And to admire the work necessary to create these pieces, some pieces being born after two years of effort.

But the art of Jean-Louis Ricaud is unique, like the artist who decided to do more than just settle down in Marmande. It opens a real museum, with upcoming events (meetings, master classes, conferences, performances, etc.), inviting the public to discover another universe. Exciting.

Inaugural evening of the Jean-Louis Ricaud Museum, 17, rue des Érables in Marmande, this Saturday October 5, 2024 from 4 p.m.: entry is 15 euros, giving the right to a second visit. Year-round visits will then be possible on Friday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., entry will be 9.5 euros.
