Hassan Hajjaj shines at the AlUla Arts Festival

Hassan Hajjaj, one of the pioneers of photography and more generally of pop art in Morocco, has recently lit up the international scene. He has had the opportunity to inaugurate exhibitions in the United States, Morocco and recently at the AlUla Arts Festival, in Saudi Arabia. His work, as versatile as it is, has won over a wide audience thanks to its authentic and colorful style.

The exhibition in AlUla featured images taken by the photographer during his visit to the city in February 2023. Hassan Hajjaj spent three intensive days photographing around 100 people, providing a rich exploration of AlUla’s cultural diversity.

Known for his unique artistic outlook, skillfully merging photography, scenography, design and fashion, Hajjaj has brought a breath of fresh air to this ancient city steeped in history. Through his colorful and dynamic portraits, he was able to capture the very essence of the city and its inhabitants. From local shepherds and the AlUla soccer team to global figures like Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz, each subject has been captured in a frame that celebrates their individuality and connection to the city.

Hassan Hajjaj’s approach as an artist goes far beyond simply capturing images. He reveals to Arab News that each photo shoot is a “performance” in itself, where the music, clothing and atmosphere contribute to creating a space for authentic expression.
