The distant galaxy has never been closer.
In Cherbourg (Manche), in the center of Éléis, the International Star Wars Day was celebrated this Saturday May 4, 2024with an enthusiasm worthy of space battle reenactment.
Why May 4?
For Star Wars fans, International Day takes place on May 4 for one good reason: the famous phrase “May the force be with you” translates into “May the force be with you” in English.
The phrase, then diverted to “May the fourth be with you” unites fans around this date.
At the heart of the event, Fnac welcomed enthusiasts of all agesready to meet their favorite heroeswhether they are in the flesh or simply embodied by skillfully costumed cosplayers.
A landmark saga
Among them, Jimmy, better known by his cosplayer name Dracoa, has transformed into Cal Kestisthe courageous protagonist of the video game Jedi Survivor. “Cosplay is the act of creating a costume to interpret a character at a convention or event of this type,” he explains.
His passion for Star Wars is undeniable: “I have done lots of different universes but Star Wars remains one of my favorites. I have seen all the films, my favorite remains Episode III, the Obi Wan-Anakin relationship which is torn apart and the resulting confrontation remains a vivid cinema memory. »
“I just wanted to discover and I completely fell into it”
The event also offered fans the opportunity to revisit their favorite moments from the saga on the big screen, thanks to the broadcast of episode I at GCR cinema.
“I just wanted to find out and I completely fell into it. The history is rich in incredible universe. We explore history from all points of view, whether it be the dark side, the force or even contraband. The dark side-light side contrast is perfect. Today’s episode, I’m going to watch it again for the 100the time, but this will be the first time I see it in the cinema. », Shares Théo, a fervent follower of the saga since his first cinematic experience in 2015.
The young man is also a great collector. “With all the derivative products, whether books or video games, I think my collection reaches five figures,” he confides.
“Trilogies are timeless,” says Pascal, a fan since the 90s. His love for Star Wars goes back to the first films, for which he retains a particular affection.
Finally, for Alain, the fascination with the endless universe of Star Wars is palpable: “It’s the reference in this model of film”, he proclaims, before concluding: “I went to take some photos at Les Éleis with the cosplayers. This day is a great day for fans like me! »
