You may not have thought about it, but Quebec has reached an important threshold. Details in the article.
Solar season
Casually, despite the heat and good weather which are slow to set in, Quebec is soon moving into the summer solar season. Indeed, on May 6, the northern hemisphere will experience the three-month sequence with maximum light. This period corresponds to the time when our star reaches its highest level in the sky. The solar season differs from the meteorological and astronomical seasons because it occurs earlier. Meteorological summer begins on June 1 and the solstice will take place on June 20 this year.
Hours of sunshine
Already in March the lengthening of the days is felt with the sun gaining strength. However, it is at the beginning of May that Quebec begins the happiest streak for hours of sunshine. In fact, the length of the day reaches and exceeds 14 hours.
Long days
At the end of April, southern Quebec gains almost three minutes of light per day. During the month of May, this gain decreases until the summer solstice. Thereafter, the days gradually lose sunlight until the winter solstice. Perhaps you haven’t thought about it, but the sun now sets after 8:00 p.m. Towards the end of June, the metropolis will enter darkness even later: around 8:47 p.m.
No show
Unfortunately, La Belle Province may not feel the effects of this great progress this week. Certainly, the length of the day is getting longer, but the cloud cover could prevent us from appreciating its true value.
