Pierre-Luc Leclerc, who until recently served as political attaché to Bloc Québécois MP Maxime Blanchette-Joncas, has been incarcerated. The 38-year-old man faces charges of criminal harassment and failure to comply with conditions.

Pierre-Luc Leclerc was first arrested on June 17 by the Sûreté du Québec, says Annie-Claude Breton, the prosecutor for the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP). Conditions were then imposed on him by the police services in relation to a criminal harassment complaint for events that took place between November 26, 2022 and June 16, 2024.

On September 13, the man was arrested a second time by the Sûreté du Québec and placed in detention for failure to comply with conditions and for criminal harassment for events that took place between September 3 and 12.

Pierre-Luc Leclerc will return to the Rimouski courthouse on September 19 for his bail hearing.

These accusations are not, however, related to his work as a political attaché, in which he is called upon to accompany or represent the member for Rimouski-Neigette—Témiscouata—Les Basques in various events.

Maxime Blanchette-Joncas refused to grant an interview on the subject.

The deputy’s principal assistant and press attaché, Mathieu Laroche Casavant, however indicated by email that Mr. Joncas’ office was not aware of the situation concerning Mr. Leclerc.

As soon as [le député] was informed of the situation, Mr. Leclerc was suspended for the duration of the investigation by the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Commons.

The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms and Institutional Security, to which MP Joncas’ office refers, is responsible for ensuring the security of the House of Commons and controlling visitor access.

For security reasons, the Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms cannot confirm to Radio-Canada whether an investigation is underway.
