« J’try to stay standing but, inside, it’s a field of ruins.” These are the words with which Gisèle Pélicot concluded her long hearing on Thursday before the Vaucluse departmental criminal court. For an entire morning, this 71-year-old woman, a twig measuring 1.65 m and weighing 51 kg, did not waver. Standing, her hands delicately placed on the lectern, she recounted in great detail how her life was turned upside down one day in November 2020. She answered everything, even the most disturbing questions about her private life and her ex-husband’s sexual practices. It is the story of a “miracle survivor” – according to a medical expert – that we listen to, stunned.

Her ex-husband, Dominique Pélicot, also 71 years old and whom she now calls “Mr. Pélicot”, allegedly drugged her with anxiolytics and sleeping pills for nearly ten years with the aim of raping her and sexually delivering her to dozens of strangers.
