The Balma and Pin-Balma blood donors association (ADSB) will carry out its first collection of the year on Wednesday February 5 at the Odyssée. The ADSB is thus beginning a new season, after a year 2024 marked by an increase in attendance at its blood collection operations.
904 volunteers in 2024
Becoming a donor requires being between 18 and 70 years old, weighing more than 50 kg and not having been transfused. This is why volunteers who come to donate blood are not always taken care of. In 2024, 904 people showed up during the six ADSB sessions, but 787 could be sampled. This is better than in 2023, when 859 presented themselves, for 723 who were suitable. In addition to that of Wednesday February 5, the ADSB has already scheduled its next collections for April 9, June 13, August 8, September 26 and November 26. In France, 10,000 donations are needed every day, including a thousand in Occitanie. Vital blood bags on a daily basis, particularly for patients undergoing chemotherapy, suffering from anemia or victims of accidents. “We operate on a tight schedule. The risk is that caregivers will one day be forced to choose between several patients due to a lack of blood bags,” warned Jean-Marie Veys, president of the ADSB.
