Abidjan, January 24, 2025 (AIP) – Generally provided with quality services in general medicine, pediatrics, gynecology, dental practice, cardiology, diabetology, radiology, medical analysis laboratories, Otorhino Laryngology (ENT), internal pharmacy, pediatrics, vaccination as well as family planning services, the Community-Based Urban Health Units (FSU Com), are private, non-profit hospitals of the first contacts, to which patients who need quality medical care at affordable prices should refer.
This information was given by the Chairman of the board of directors of FSU-Com of Yopougon Toits Rouges (Abidjan West), Kouassi Bah, during a meeting organized Thursday January 23, 2025 by the Network of African Media Professionals for the Promotion of health and environment (REMAPSEN) as part of its “REMAPSEN Meetings”.
Indeed, the structure he presides over was the pilot health center which has generated, for more than 30 years, around forty of this type of health establishment, distributed across all the communes of the Autonomous District of Abidjan. The prices are 1,000 FCFA to 1,500 FCFA for general medicine, 5,000 F for specialties, while childbirth is completely free, as well as free care for children from zero to five years old.
In 2023, this hospital will welcome a total of 354,000 patients, all specialties combined. For dispensary activities, there were 150,726 adults, 12,394 children and 12,412 cases under observation. Regarding pandemic activities and programs, there were 24,584 positive cases of malaria, 39,810 screened for HIV including 626 positive cases, and 4,126 screened for tuberculosis including 825 positive cases.
“Our services operate 24 hours a day. The most recurrent pathologies are, among others, malaria, acute respiratory infections (ARI), gastroenteritis (diarrhea). We are encountering more and more cases of diabetes, high blood pressure and their correlation with cardiovascular accident (CVA). We are also seeing an increase in HIV/AIDS-positive people, due to a relaxation of prevention campaigns and risky behaviors adopted by populations. Let’s be very careful and vigilant! », explained the health manager of FSU Com, Doctor François Monssia.
According to the head physician, Dr Marie-Thérèse Kouakoutié, the FSU Com de Toits Rouges offers the amenities of quality care with not only qualified staff who listen to patients, but also very pleasant and clean premises. . “The welcome received in our hospital immediately heals our patients and builds their loyalty. In the event of an emergency beyond our technical platform, we evacuate patients to the Yopougon-Attié general hospital (formerly PMI). For example, in 2023, out of 4,257 deliveries, we evacuated 1,073 parturients,” she says.
-Thus, the major midwife, Ms. Magne, invited women to attend the hospital for their prenatal consultations, family planning, cervical and breast cancer screening, and to take their children there. for vaccination and nutritional monitoring.
The FSU Com also carries out social solidarity and assistance works for indigent people and facilitates their access to care. “It is even the fundamental principle of the FSU Com network of the Autonomous District of Abidjan. Because we work in the community, with the community and for the community. In other words, it is the community which itself manages the FSU Com,” concluded Mr. Kouassi Bah.
