In its medical journal, INSERM summarizes the main effects of the hormone on pathology: “ serum 25(OH)D concentration is inversely correlated with the prevalence of type 2 diabetes, glycosylated hemoglobin level and insulin resistance “. Indeed, the β cells of the islets of Langerhans have a receptor for this hormone, and the promoter of the insulin gene contains vitamin D response elements (also called VDRE, forr Vitamin D Responsive Elements in English).

Regarding insulin resistance, several studies have shown that vitamin D supplementation can improve certain intermediate parameters.
