The Géronce Carnival announces a great vintage for 2025

Listed as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture since 2009, this event is considered one of the largest Pyrenean carnivals. The event has its origins in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by writings from the 19th century.

Thousands of partygoers expected

The organizers promise: the 2025 vintage of the Géronce Carnival will live up to its illustrious predecessors. Each evening will be hosted by groups (orchestras, bands) with the support of the Cousté and Pelay sound bodegas.

Chocolate maker Lindt increases sales and plans price hikes

The chocolatier Lindt & Sprüngli once again saw its turnover increase thanks to an increase in sales in all regions of the world last year. Faced with a tense context, the group is preparing for a further increase in prices in 2025. The only French production unit based in Oloron will turn to the development of renewable energies.

Several thousand partygoers are expected, particularly for the big Saturday evening hosted by Arpège, a local orchestra which will bring several festive innovations. The day before, the Portuguese evening will launch, with vigor and humor, an unmissable weekend for the people of the valley and their friends.

19 tanks for the Cavalcade

But the unmissable moment of the valley carnival remains the great Cavalcade. Sunday February 23, there will be 19 floats which will set off from Orin, under the gustatory glitter of the Lahargue house, with this year “nuggets” with sound and articulated sounds. Each tank is unique since each time, it represents a real human adventure led by groups of friends, through two to three months of manufacturing.

This afternoon, around 10,000 spectators are expected to arrive at Chez Germaine in Geus, without forgetting the Lacomme “spot” in Saint-Goin. These spectators, a good number of them, will be swallowed up in the flood of a thousand masked people.

Freedom and desire as the golden rule

Because, beyond the numbers, what makes Géronce successful remains the spiritual aspect of this centuries-old festival which, through a scientifically unexplained phenomenon, puts all generations on the streets. If the magic works, it is because the tradition is not restricted: no theme being imposed, the number one rule is freedom and the desire to share an exceptional moment.

Current events, showbiz, politics (surely a good vintage this year…) but also poetry and humor are brought together with a good zest of know-how for a parade that can impress the layman. So, get your masks on, set, vibrate!
