Belgian hospitals have moved to code Orange of the Winter Respiratory Infections Plan following the increase in infections, particularly influenza. Wearing a mask is obligatory in certain cases.
This should bring back some bad memories: wearing a mask is once again compulsory, in a certain number of cases (see below, in the three hospitals of the UCL Namur University Hospital. The cause is the increase in respiratory infections in this winter period (flu, Covid, RSV – respiratory syncytial virus –, pneumococci).
-The Risk Management Group (RMG), made up of representatives of the federal and federated health authorities, has activated the “Code Orange” of the Winter Respiratory Infections Plan, as of this Friday, January 10, 2025. Among the measures taken, we find the wearing of mask in hospitals.
Wearing a mask:
- For all : In the event of respiratory symptoms, wearing a surgical mask is essential.
- Staff members and visitors : Wearing a mask is compulsory during close contact (less than 1.50 m) with hospitalized patients.
- Hospitalized patients : Wearing a mask is compulsory when leaving their room or during close contact (less than 1m50) with other people.
- Patients in consultation : Wearing a mask is recommended in case of close contact (less than 1.50 m) with caregivers or other patients.
