Renaud Lavoie is firmly convinced: “a marriage is coming” between Jake Evans and the Montreal Canadiens.
During his daily segment on BPM Sports, the TVA Sports journalist said he expected a long-term contract.
The main interested party shared with Lavoie his wish to stay in Montreal and it seems that this is reciprocal.
“I don’t know when, I don’t know the date,” said Lavoie, “but there is a wedding coming up to ensure that Jake remains in the organization.
“It won’t be Phillip Danault’s contract at $5.5 million per year, there…”
However, overpaying Evans by $1.5 million would not be dramatic in the eyes of the informant.
“The salary cap will continue to rise,” he recalled. There are still people who say that in two years, it will be $100 million. Over three years, if you give Evans $1.5 million more, no one is going to cry.”
Evans, 28, is having the best season of his career with 23 points, including 10 goals, in 39 games so far, in addition to being formidable on the penalty kill. The Ontarian will become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
