The fight against HIV/AIDS in Nyanga province does not stop. For the year 2024, 685 people in Tchibanga and Mayumba volunteered, and ultimately 17 positive cases were detected. A mission from the General Directorate for AIDS Prevention (DGPS), in collaboration with the Outpatient Treatment Center (CTA) of Tchibanga and the Provincial Committee for the Fight against Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) of Nyanga, carried out the screening activity on two sites: the war memorial and a place adjoining the Étienne-Koumba-Nziengui high school.

And the Mayumba festival square, in Basse-Banio. According to the general director of statistics and studies, Diaba Mouissi Fernand, among the 685 volunteers who took part in screening, including 488 from Tchibanga, 13 new positive cases were detected. The others being in Basse-Banio. That is 17 new HIV-positive cases, the majority of them women. The wish of the health authorities concerned with HIV/AIDS issues is to significantly reduce the prevalence rate in Nyanga.

For this, in addition to raising awareness, more than 25 thousand condoms were distributed in the two localities. That is 7,500 condoms in Mayumba, and 18,300 condoms in Tchibanga. Local populations appreciated the action of the General Directorate for AIDS Prevention, carried out with the unwavering support of the CTA of Tchibanga and the Provincial Committee for the Fight against Sexually Transmitted Infections.
