From birth until the age of 16, a child must pass 20 compulsory medical examinations. These allow monitoring of one’s health until adolescence.

From January 1, 2025, a new exam will be added at 6 years old. Why this age specifically?

This choice is not trivial. The HCSP underlines the crucial importance of entering the preparatory course, a period during which the child must mobilize numerous adaptation and learning capacities. This exam aims to detect possible difficulties early to guarantee optimal schooling.

A complete development review

The new medical check-up includes an in-depth assessment of several aspects: physical growth, oral health, vision, hearing, sleep quality, exposure to screens, physical activity and vaccination status. Particular attention is also paid to psychosocial development, including language, socialization and autonomy.

The total number of exams remains unchanged

To accommodate this new medical appointment without adding to the schedule, the examination scheduled between the 3rd week and the end of the child’s 1st month will be canceled.

The total number of compulsory examinations thus remains stable at 20. These consultations continue to be fully covered by Health Insurance.
