Critically acclaimed and awarded six prizes at the 2023 Tangier National Film Festival (including the Grand Prize and that of best direction), “My father is not dead”, first feature film by Adil Fadili, is is finally approaching theaters, with a release scheduled for January 8, 2025.
The story follows Malik, a young boy living with his father Mehdi in a funfair. Their daily life is turned upside down when Mehdi gives his son five mysterious and fascinating paintings. But their lives are tragically turned upside down when an altercation with the police leads to Mehdi's arrest. Faced with this sudden disappearance, Malik launches into a frantic quest to find his father, helped by the community of fairground workers.
The film lists a solid cast, bringing together established figures and new talents: the late Aziz El Fadili (whose last role in the cinema), Nadia Kounda, Faouzi Bensaïdi, Didier Benureau, Abdelnbi El Beniwi and the young Adam Raghal.
With “My father is not dead”, Adil El Fadili offers a reflection on family ties, social injustice and art as a refuge. Born in 1970 and trained at the Free Conservatory of French Cinema (CLCF) in Paris, the director built his career with TV films and Moroccan series, signing his first short film, entitled “Courte Vie”, in 2010.
