A 7-year-old child died in Le Havre following meningitis, indicates a press release from the Normandy Regional Health Agency (ARS), published Thursday December 19, 2024. “Despite all the efforts of the rescue teams who took care of the child, she unfortunately died at the Rouen University Hospital”specifies the document.
“It is estimated that there is a risk of transmission for people who have been directly and prolonged exposed to nasopharyngeal secretions (especially cough) of the sick person in the ten days preceding the occurrence” of the disease, notes the ARS press release. However, “contagiousness is not significant and concerns close contacts, in the community and in the family”underlines the organization.
High fever, headache, nausea and vomiting
In order to avoid any contamination, the ARS therefore recommended a “taking an antibiotic […] to 15 students, 2 teachers and 49 people for the family and friends circle”. Elle “continue to monitor this situation with the greatest attention”.
“Meningitis is a bacterial disease which results in high fever, headache, nausea and vomiting as well as a stiff neck”remind the authorities. Following this death, the ARS indicates that it has put in place “a medico-psychological emergency cell” in order to accompany “at best students, staff and families”.
