Les Arènes d’Elles, a Nîmes association which works to help and support cancer patients, organized a wardrobe clearance and a toy fair with the aim of raising the funds necessary to achieve their objectives. Gaëlle, Laurine and Aurore, the kingpins of the association, are supported in their activities by their husbands, members of their family and friends. “The idea of creating this association germinated during our participation in the Pink Ribbons trek, in southern Morocco, explain the three young women. We have had relatives, as well as acquaintances, who have been struck by breast cancer, and we wanted to help them. Then, subsequently, we wanted to extend our help to all people suffering from cancers other than breast cancer, both men and women.”
Their goal? “Help and support patients, and first of all, make everyone aware of the importance of systematic screening. Without forgetting to remember that there is no age for developing the disease.” According to the organizers of the closet clearance, “ The funds raised today, like all those we raise during initiatives of this type, are used to finance the needs of patients, during or after their treatment, in particular for the purchase of cosmetics or comfort substances intended to reduce the undesirable effects induced by certain treatments. We also do sewing to make various accessories, such as heart cushions.” The organizers insist that “not all cosmetic or parapharmaceutical products on the market are suitable. Those affected often need advice when making their choice.”
Accompanied by their loved ones, Gaëlle, Laurine and Aurore, tirelessly continue their noble activities in the service of others.
