The Covid-19 vaccination campaign for winter 2023-2024 has been open since October 15, but only 2 million French people have received a dose at the beginning of December. Health authorities are calling for people to get vaccinated before the end-of-year holidays.
Figures in clear decline. The winter vaccination campaign against Covid-19 has been open in France since October 15. Data communicated by the Minister of Health to the regional press including Le Parisien, however, show that far fewer people have been vaccinated since that date compared to previous years.
Indeed, only around 2 million people have received a dose of Covid-19 vaccine since the start of the campaign.
“Vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself (…), particularly serious forms: it is not too late,” launched Public Health France in its weekly monitoring bulletin for acute respiratory infections this Tuesday, December 4 .
30% of those aged 65 and over vaccinated last year
Anyone who wishes can be vaccinated against Covid-19. “It is essential to recommend vaccination to all eligible people, in order to protect them and those around them,” writes Public Health France.
Vaccination is recommended, 57.2% of those over 65 had been vaccinated again as of December 1. years, people with a chronic illness, the immunocompromised, people with severe obesity and pregnant women.
“Vaccination is also recommended for those close to these vulnerable people (family, home help, etc.) as well as for health professionals,” remind the health authorities. According to Le Parisien, the target population includes nearly 20 million inhabitants.
According to Health Insurance, at the end of last fall-winter vaccination campaign, 30.2% of people aged 65 and over had received a dose. For now, we remain far from these figures this year.
Conversely, in the United Kingdom, 57.2% of those over 65 were vaccinated again on December 1st.
“Still time to get vaccinated before the holidays”
Covid-19 continues to cause serious forms in France. Between November 25 and December 1, 267 people aged over 65 were hospitalized after a trip to the emergency room due to Covid, reports Public Health France.
“People testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 among patients admitted to the intensive care unit were mainly people aged 65 and over and unvaccinated,” underlines the organization.
It is possible to be vaccinated at your GP, in a pharmacy, from a nurse or a midwife. In addition, vaccination is 100% covered by Health Insurance for the entire population.
“Since vaccination is effective around 15 days after the injection, there is still time to be vaccinated before the holidays,” specifies the ARS of Hauts-de-France.
