In France, between 141,200 and 243,500 cases of skin cancer are diagnosed each year, according to figures from Public Health France. To help detect this disease, a medical bus has been traveling in the municipalities of Indre since December 2, reports The New Republic.
Skin cancer is mainly attributable to excessive exposure to natural or artificial ultraviolet (UV) rays. If this exposure can be limited, so can the damage from cancer, in particular thanks to rapid screening. This is why the Hocoia company has set up this specialized vehicle which allows you to spot the first signs without leaving your municipality.
A real success
“We are a telemedicine company whose goal is to provide a solution where it is difficult to find a treating doctor or a specialist,” explains the company representative to our colleagues. On the bus, a nurse photographs visitors’ moles or spots and sends them to a dermatologist. The latter then responds to patients within fifteen days.
“The 160 slots were reserved in 48 hours,” confides the nurse, while finding a dermatologist is becoming more and more difficult. The operation is free for residents and continues until December 6. After skin cancer screening, new operations, including one focused on breast cancer, will take place in 2025.
