The unions representing Medical Biology Laboratories inform that they have launched a call for a “shutdown” of the laboratories from December 23 to 31 inclusive. In a press release, they specify:
“This movement by medical biologists will lead to the temporary closure of laboratories during this period.
The objective of our mobilization is to preserve the quality of your care and access to your local laboratory, which are endangered by Health Insurance decisions.
In September 2024, Health Insurance decided to further drastically reduce the prices of many analyzes useful for diagnosing and monitoring your illnesses. This new decline, following those carried out in 2022 and 2023, brings laboratories to the breaking point.
In practice, these budgetary restrictions risk leading to the closure or reduction of hours of many local laboratories, particularly in rural areas, with risks for the employment of laboratory staff. »
Employees of Medical Biology Laboratories on strike
“The service that your laboratory offers to obtain rapid results in the event of a medical emergency risks being significantly degraded, which could force you to go to the nearest emergency room, including waiting times and treatment are already considerably lengthened.
The profession has always been aware of the need to control public spending, while ensuring as a priority access to quality care for all French people. But now, only cost reduction to reduce public debt seems to be the priority, even if this has to be done at the expense of your health.
The annual state budget for your biology exams is now insufficient to cover all the needs of the population. This budget will be exhausted before the end of the year. Medical biologists have therefore decided to publicly denounce this situation and to mobilize by carrying out a temporary closure from December 23 to 31, 2024.
Once the budget is exhausted, the labs are closed!
“This temporary closure is an example of what laboratories will become in the years to come if Health Insurance and the State do not reverse their decisions to resume a constructive dialogue with our profession, in the interest of the French.
Medical biologists are aware of the inconvenience caused by this choice, but remain convinced that this mobilization is essential to protect this medical specialty which is essential to your health and that of your loved ones.
We know we can count on your understanding and support, which you can express by signing the following petition or by alerting the public authorities about this situation.
Help us care for you and protect your laboratories, it’s your right, it’s our duty! »
