An awareness campaign for the early detection of prostate cancer was launched on Sunday at the Place du 1er Novembre in downtown Blida.
This campaign, initiated by the El Fedjr association for helping cancer patients in coordination with the Cancer Center (CAC) and the local health department, was marked, from its launch, by a strong influx of men wishing to benefit from laboratory analyzes to detect this disease.
“We have carried out up to now (2 p.m.) more than 60 analyzes as part of this campaign as part of the celebration of the month of Blue November dedicated to prostate cancer screening,” indicated the Secretary General. from the El Fedjr association, Sofiane Ghelid.
Medical and paramedical staff equipped with rapid detection devices (15 minutes) were mobilized to carry out the analyses, he said, adding that “in the event of suspicion of the pathology, the person concerned is referred to specialists urinary tract for more in-depth analyses.
This campaign, which will continue until November 28, “aims to raise awareness among men of the importance of early detection of prostate cancer, given the increase observed in cases of the disease,” said Mr. Ghelid.
Note that the director of the Specialized Hospital Establishment (EHS) for the fight against cancer had underlined, in a previous statement, that her services identified 285 new cases of prostate cancer in 2023, compared to 169 new cases in 2022, hence the need for this type of awareness campaign aimed at men aged 45 to 50, she said.
This awareness campaign is organized in parallel with that launched on November 10 by the CAC of Blida at the Frantz Fanon University Hospital, we recall.
