Graduated in 1997, Cynthia Huchet works as a dietician at the Jean-Pierre Cassabel Hospital Center in Castelnaudary (Aude). The dietitian on duty has seen her job evolve. “The position of dietitian was not privileged in hospitals. We had to make this profession known and keep alive. At the beginning, I had contracts with reduced hours, now I work full time,” smiles Cynthia Huchet.
Employed at the Castelnaudary hospital since 2005, Cynthia Huchet explains that “without others, I am nothing. The caregivers, physiotherapists, doctors and even nurses give me feedback on my patients”, adds- She. Feedback that is valuable to him, to target the consumption issues of his patients. The dietitian offers solutions and patients have the option to accept or not.
“The place of women has evolved”
In the hospital sector, Cynthia Huchet meets both female and male patients. “It is generally the wives of patients or hospitalized women who come to meet me. They want advice for the pathologies that concern them. Dietetics is very individual, it depends on the patient and their nutritional intake,” explains -She. Valuable advice, for which female patients represent nearly 90% of its patients.
For the dietician, there are still obstacles to eating following changes in consumption patterns. “The place of women has evolved, and we are in a society that is evolving. The role of women is no longer the same as thirty years ago, since she works. She does not have all day to go shopping or prepare food,” she insists before emphasizing that, in the dietetics profession, the majority of professionals are women.
