Electric cars are popular when it comes to speed. But which is the fastest vehicle? This race between three electric cars allows you to get an idea. Spoiler: it’s not the fastest Tesla.
Pitting cars against each other to see which is faster is a concept that has been around since the creation of these vehicles. Without much surprise, the development of the electric car market has revived the trend. It must be said that at present, a good number of EVs are capable of going from 0 to 100 km/h in just a few secondswhich makes them real curiosities for speed enthusiasts.
To determine which electric car is the fastest, the DragTime team decided to pit three against each other : the Lucid Air Sapphire, the Rimac Nevera, and the Tesla Model S Plaid.
A revealing straight line race
The three vehicles are among the fastest to reach 100 km/h on the electric market today. However, there are still some cars missing that are perfect for such a challenge, like the Lotus Evija, which its British manufacturer considers to be “the most powerful 100% electric car ever mass-produced”. However, the show concocted by DragTime does not lack spice : the three cars selected total 4108 horsepower and were able to reveal their potential in a half-mile raceor a little more than 800 meters.
The video shows that all three cars encountered grip problems on the asphaltwithout this stopping them from delivering quite impressive power.
The Tesla does not come first
Several races took place and it turns out that the Rimac Nevera systematically came first. The Lucid Air Sapphire and Tesla Model S Plaid competed for second and third place, and the podium standings changed throughout the competition.
It must, however, be emphasized thatthere is a huge price difference between the selected vehicles. Prices for the Lucid Air Sapphire start at 250 000 dollars and the base price of the Rimac Nevera is around $2.5 million! For its part, the Tesla Model S Plaid seems almost affordable with a base price of around 110 000 dollars. Internet users do not fail to point this out in the comments of the video: “in terms of price-performance ratio, the Tesla Model S Plaid is a great deal”summarizes a spectator.
The outcome of the race might have been different if DragTime had chosen to compare vehicles positioned in a similar price rangebut these lovers of beautiful cars, without a doubt, also wanted to have fun.
