Faced with an ever-increasing number of sexual infections, the Ministry of Health is mobilizing this week by offering free and anonymous screenings.

From November 18 to 22, Luxembourg is actively participating in European Screening Week, an initiative launched on a European scale since 2013. This campaign aims to encourage early detection of HIV as well as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in response to an increase in Europe and Luxembourg.

Indeed, recent data from the national epidemiological report show a worrying increase in STI cases in the country: in 2023, gonococcal infections (gonorrhea) increased by 27.6%, syphilis cases by 16% and those of chlamydia by 6.8%.

This year, the HIV Berodung service of the Luxembourg Red Cross, the National Infectious Diseases Service (Luxembourg Hospital Center, CHL), Abrigado and the Ministry of Health and Social Security are therefore joining forces to raise awareness public and promote early detection. Ketterthill and Bionext laboratories are joining the initiative by offering free and anonymous screening tests.

The Ministry of Health is therefore calling for strengthened collaboration with all its partners to expand access to screening, raise awareness of the risks of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV, and guarantee personalized monitoring as well as access to treatment.
