Skin Cancer Awareness

Each year, nearly 80,000 cases of skin cancer are detected in France. The month of June aims to prevent skin cancers, linked to intense and continuous exposure to the sun, and to raise awareness about screening for them.

CHRU Nancy: skin cancer screening (poster)

The sun, an often overlooked daily danger

The arrival of sunny days and the first rays of sunshine is an opportunity to remember the dangers of UV rays and the actions to take to avoid them. The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage the skin and increase the risk of cancer: 60 to 95% of skin melanomas are caused by exposure to these rays.
Although many are aware of the risk posed by prolonged exposure, too few take the necessary steps to protect themselves. Essential prevention measures include the use of sunscreen with a high protection factor, wearing covering clothing, sunglasses, and hats, as well as avoiding exposure to the sun between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. when UV rays are most intense.

Awareness of early detection

Early detection of skin cancers allows them to be treated more effectively. Healthcare professionals recommend regular skin self-examinations to spot any suspicious changes, as well as regular dermatology consultations for those at high risk.

In partnership with the CPAM of Meurthe-et-Moselle, the metropolis of Greater Nancy, the city of Nancy, Nancy Thermal, and the League against cancer 54, the CHRU of Nancy will hold a prevention and information stand for the greater public at the Nancy Thermal aquasports area June 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..
This action will be renewed July 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 2 rives beach.
