In July, Mathieu Comeau launched his salon COMO Barbiers & Bien-être, in the basement of a building on rue Christophe-Colomb Est, alongside the Displace tattoo studio. Its objective: to become a one-stop shop for men’s care and products, a one-stop-shop of self-careas he describes it himself.
As the profession of barber is often synonymous with secrets from its customers, the New Brunswick native decided to link the causes of mental health and male cancers to his young business.
“I was already participating in Movember, but I also wanted to associate the charity aspect to my business. In September, I had the impulse to officially raise funds for Movember, explains the 28-year-old entrepreneur. Just growing a mustache is one thing, but I wanted to put real action behind the words.”
Throughout the month of November, Mr. Comeau offers free mustache trimming to anyone who comes to his salon, even without an appointment. In return, customers are invited to make a voluntary monetary donation on site for Movember.
Since 2003, this global organization has funded hundreds of men’s health projects. Its goal is to reduce the number of premature deaths among men, whether due to cancer or suicide.
“That pussy directly with my mission to my customers. Over the years, I have noticed that men take more and more care of themselves, observes Mr. Comeau. We no longer hear about metrosexuals, the self-care became the basis and took its place among men. And that extends to questions of health, mental and physical. So, I wanted my company to do its small part to help, to raise awareness among as many people as possible in a fun way.”
