On Tuesday, November 5, WHO Bukavu delivered a batch of inputs to combat monkeypox (Mpox). These are drug kits for the free treatment of Mpox patients, material kits for the prevention and control of infection in health structures.

This batch of drugs strengthens the response to the fight against Mpox in one of the most affected provinces.

In addition to the medicines, this lot is made up of 108 mattresses, 108 metal beds, 108 sheets to improve the hospitalization of patients and 8 oxygen concentrators for the resuscitation of children in Mpox treatment centers. All valued at more than 50,000 USD.

“Today we received a large batch of medicines from our partner WHO. It’s not just medicines, there are materials: beds, mattresses, sheets, oxygen concentrators… and it is the WHO partner itself who will take care of the transport to bring all these materials to the Mpox processing site. Mpox treatment until then remains free with a food service which is organized at the treatment site so that patients cannot go and get food,” explained the provincial Minister of Health, Théophile Walulika Muzaliwa.

In South Kivu, 32 out of 34 health zones are affected by the Mpox epidemic.
