As part of the national Pink October campaign, the Corrèze and Dordogne Occupational Health Prevention Service (SPST 19/24) launched a series of breast cancer screening awareness workshops. Thursday October 24, three sessions were held, bringing together around twenty women, employees of the adapted company Périgord Ressources, in Terrasson. “This initiative is a first, it aims to provide participants with concrete tools for their health, by training them in self-examination, a simple method of early detection of breast cancer,” explains Isabelle Dupuy, director of the establishment.

Charlotte Pannebiau, nurse at SPST 19/24, leads the sessions and recalls the importance of early diagnosis: “Early detection can save lives. These workshops encourage women to become actors in their own screening,” she emphasizes. The objective is to transmit to them the actions to reproduce at home, in order to be able to react to the slightest suspicious sign. These workshops, in addition to targeting Périgord Ressources employees, extend to other local businesses to reach as many people as possible.

To date, two companies from the Terrasson region are participating. And collaborations with around ten other structures are planned, in particular with the Condat stationery, thus making it possible to raise awareness among around fifty women. Beyond self-examination, the workshops also address the benefits of increased vigilance in the face of warning symptoms and the importance of regular consultations.

The Pink October initiative, however, is not the only awareness program offered by the region’s occupational health service. In the coming months, workshops on other health issues, linked to occupational risks and employee well-being, will also be organized. For Charlotte Pannebiau and her colleagues, these actions are part of a desire to affect the entire territory, including female medical personnel, often exposed to night work schedules and other specific risks.
