Pierre LeBrun will be on 5 à 7 Thursday evening, from 5 p.m. on RDS2 and RDS.ca, to discuss his interview with Marc Bergevin.
It was three years ago today, November 28, 2021.
Just a few months after leading the Montreal Canadiens to the Stanley Cup final, Marc Bergevin was fired after more than nine seasons as the team’s general manager – a reign marked by ups and downs.
The end was abrupt for the man who now has a role in the Los Angeles Kings organization, far from the Montreal spotlight.
“I have no regrets about my time in Montreal. It was a great nine and a half years, and I only have positive memories,” Bergevin said in an exclusive interview with Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic this week.
Bergevin also confided that he needed this break away from the media sphere as intense as that of Montreal.
The outcome could have been very different for Bergevin, who had the chance to extend his time in Montreal after the team’s loss in the Stanley Cup final, when Geoff Molson approached him to extend his contract in 2021.
“I decided that the best thing for me was to move on. My time had come. It was good for both of us to move forward in different directions, Bergevin told The Athletic. Geoff was very good, very fair. But I told him, ‘Geoff, I’m going to finish my last year here and then I’m going to move on.’ He understood, he was fine with that. »
“Honestly, I enjoyed every second of my time in Montreal. Although sometimes there were times when I didn’t feel that way. Looking back now, yes. »
In this interview, Bergevin also discussed the hostile offer he submitted to Sebastian Aho, the Jesperi Kotkaniemi file, the selection of Logan Mailloux and his future as GM.
