Researchers from Boston University published a study on June 4 on the link between aircraft noise exposure and high BMI. It corroborates the results of numerous studies, which associate noise pollution with sleep disorders, cardiac and even metabolic pathologies.

The incessant roar of planes taking off and landing not only generates sighs from residents near airports. It also has a very real impact on their health, both mental and physical. A team from the Boston University School of Public Health provides a little more data in this direction: their study, published Tuesday June 4 in Environment International, concludes a link between airport noise and obesity. More precisely, they found an association between the exposure of local populations to aircraft noise above 45 decibels and a higher and modified body mass index (BMI) from the age of 18. BMI itself linked to heart problems, metabolism and other diseases.
