The Charpennes hospital is actively seeking Parkinson's patients and healthy volunteers for its pioneering study entitled PARK 5-HT4.

After a successful first recruitment phase last June, the establishment is joining forces with the Institute of Cognitive Sciences CNRS UMR 5229 to explore a receptor that is still little studied in the context of Parkinson's disease.

This study focuses on the 5-HT4 receptor of the serotonergic pathway, whose expression has been observed in the basal ganglia of macaques. Its exploration in patients could provide valuable insight into this complex pathology.

The study, launched in December 2023, aims to recruit 15 healthy volunteers and 20 patients over a period of two years. Participants will undergo comprehensive clinical evaluations, including neurological and neuropsychological tests, as well as tests such as a brain MRI, CT scan and blood tests. Adverse effects could be limited to discomfort related to the MRI or blood test. Participants will receive compensation of 150 euros, as well as reimbursement of their transport costs, for their contribution to this essential research.

This research represents a significant advance in the understanding of Parkinson's disease, offering promising prospects for future therapies. Researchers hope to identify alterations in the expression of the 5-HT4 receptor in the early stages of the disease, opening the way to new treatment strategies.

Profiles sought:

Men or women aged 50 to 85 years old, with Parkinson's disease that has lasted 2 to 8 years or who do not present a significant disease for the volunteer subjects.
