The Île-de-France Region committed to an AIDS-free region (Press release)

The first region committed to the fight against HIV, Île-de-France unanimously adopted, in July 2017, its Agenda for an Île-de-France without AIDS: it mobilized elected officials and provided support to associative actors, with the ambition of putting an end to the epidemic on its territory according to the objectives set on a global scale by the UNAIDS program.

Today, the Île-de-France Region, meeting in plenary session, presented the second part of its Agenda for an Île-de-France without AIDS, a new strategy for the period 2024-2028.

This strategy is a continuation of the actions undertaken since 2017, which led the Region to invest 25 million euros to notably: support actors engaged in the fight against discrimination and serophobia, deploy HIV self-tests, help to the creation of community health centers, supporting research actors or even taking its commitment internationally.

Today, information and awareness, particularly among young people, must remain priorities for regional action. This new action plan also focuses on prevention, the main lever for controlling the epidemic. Regular screening must be made commonplace. The Île-de-France Region will continue its efforts to raise awareness among health professionals, promote the use of condoms and disseminate self-tests, particularly in universities.

It will mobilize elected officials from the Ile-de-France region, all local stakeholders and its associated organization Ile de France Prévention santé AIDS, engaged during a “ Ile-de-France month of screening » to combat territorial inequalities in access to prevention, screening and care.

Following the priorities of regional health action, women, particularly of sub-Saharan origin, who constitute a particularly key audience, are at the heart of this strategy. The Île-de-France Region will continue its efforts to support the associations mobilized to provide them with appropriate care and remove obstacles, particularly for access to treatments. Women represent 34% of new diagnoses, but only less than 3% of people using PrEP.

By targeting its action on these priority issues, the Île-de-France Region will continue to act in complementarity with other institutional or associative actors and will continue the dynamic initiated since 2017 around seven main axes: strengthening the coordination of the different actors involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS and contributing to the dissemination of knowledge; lead to the mobilization of local elected officials in the Ile-de-France region in the fight against HIV; raise awareness and mobilize young people; act in favor of target audiences; fight against discrimination; act for the healthy aging of people with HIV; carry and disseminate the Region’s commitment on an international scale.

It is in this spirit of partnership and to act as close as possible to complementary needs that the Île-de-France Region will sign a joint declaration with the Regional Health Agency and will commit to the approach supported by the United Nations of “Fast track cities” alongside other territories engaged in the fight against the epidemic on a global scale.

The Île-de-France Region has the ambition to put an end to the epidemic so that the next generation is an AIDS-free generation.
